"Mom, I'm FINALLY on a team!" said 10-year old Spencer after his first sled hockey practice.
We are the Wheelchair Sports Federation NY Sled Rangers, a sled hockey team for physically disabled youth ages 5 through 23. We are one of the few outlets for physically disabled kids to play competitive sports in New York City.
We are changing perceptions about how parents think about their children, and how the kids think about themselves. We are increasing self-esteem and self-confidence through sports & recreation all while exposing them to teamwork, friendship and competition.
We are New York City based, and have kids throughout the 5 Boroughs, Long Island, and Westchester/Rockland Counties.
We are committed to covering the costs for any athlete who wants to play, and we are determined to introduce even more kids to the great sport of sled hockey.
Our near-term goal is to reach 100 kids and to start our own New York City sled hockey league.
Event proceeds will go towards sleds & equipment for new players, ice time, transportation to games and tournaments, league and tournament fees, and outreach to attract new players.
